Mizoram Gen-AI Mission Brings Free AI Lessons to 5,500 Students

CM Lalduhoma launched the Mizoram Gen-AI Mission in Lunglei on 6 Nov 2026, giving 5,500 students in 80 schools 30 free AI modules from CodeYogi.

Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma launched the Lunglei Gen-AI Mission on 6 November 2026 at Government High School, Lunglei, bringing free generative artificial intelligence (AI) lessons to more than 5,500 students in 80 schools of Lunglei district. The District Education Office and the CodeYogi Foundation are running the programme under the district administration.

Titled “Lunglei Gen-AI Mission: Lunglei’s Gen-Alpha, Empowered by AI”, the first phase is built around 30 one-hour video modules prepared by CodeYogi, the non-profit whose founder Prashant Chaudhary recently won the Rohini Nayyar Prize for CodeYogi’s smartphone-first AI fluency programme. The launch was reported by India Today NE and PTI.

What the Mizoram Gen-AI Mission offers students

The modules introduce students to what AI is, the AI platforms in common use today and how to apply them to everyday tasks. They are free, and students work through them at their own pace with teachers guiding them in school.

  • Coverage: 80 schools selected by the District Education Office in Lunglei district
  • Reach: more than 5,500 students in phase one
  • Content: 30 video modules of about one hour each, provided at no cost
  • Delivery: self-paced learning under teacher supervision, backed by teacher orientation

According to the Directorate of Information and Public Relations, Mizoram, the plan was worked out at a meeting chaired by Lunglei Deputy Commissioner Navneet Mann. Rakesh Sehgal of CodeYogi Foundation told officials that the lessons are designed to help students use AI well and to protect themselves from its possible harms.

“No reason Mizoram cannot become a digital state”

Addressing students at the launch, Lalduhoma said AI has become part of daily life and young people must learn to use it productively. He noted that Mizo has been available on Google Translate since 2022, which lets people talk to AI tools in their own language, and pointed to the state’s shift to e-office, e-files and online portals.

“There is no reason why Mizoram cannot become a digital state,” the Chief Minister said, citing its full literacy, small population and strong English skills. Mizoram was declared India’s first fully literate state in 2025. He urged students to complete the modules seriously and asked government employees to keep upgrading their own technology skills.

Why it matters for AI literacy in schools

The mission is funded through CodeYogi’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) work, and Lalduhoma said he hopes it will be extended to other districts. The state has set up a dedicated CSR Cell to draw more corporate support into such projects. Lunglei has already piloted the state’s first Cosmic Class, astronomy labs in three schools, a Learning Bridges Programme for dropouts and a MoneyWise financial literacy course.

A district-wide, free and self-paced model gives the Northeast a low-cost template for AI literacy as other states move AI into the classroom. Telangana has run an AI literacy drive for 2 million government school students. Punjab, meanwhile, has added AI to computer science for Classes 8 to 12 in government schools.
