Galgotias University has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Japan’s Yamanashi Prefecture and the University of Yamanashi, creating new opportunities for academic, research and industry collaboration between Uttar Pradesh and Japan.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath welcomed the partnership, describing it as an important step towards expanding international academic and industrial cooperation. He also encouraged other universities in the state to develop similar partnerships with Japanese institutions.
The MoU was signed during a visit by a high-level Japanese delegation of more than 200 members, led by Kotaro Nagasaki, Governor of Yamanashi Prefecture, during the Uttar Pradesh-Japan Investment Summit 2026. Galgotias University was the only university selected for a visit by the delegation.
The collaboration will initially focus on three strategic technology areas — Green Hydrogen, Electric Vehicles (EVs) and Semiconductors. The partnership is expected to facilitate joint research, technology exchange, faculty and student mobility, and stronger university-industry linkages.
The engagement also comes alongside proposed Japanese investments of around ₹3,000 crore in the YEIDA region, which are expected to generate employment opportunities for nearly 10,000 young people.

During their visit, Japanese delegates explored Galgotias University’s laboratories and classrooms and interacted with the institution’s academic ecosystem. The university said the engagement will support its efforts to expand research and industry-linked innovation in sustainable technologies.
The partnership reflects the growing scope for India-Japan cooperation in advanced technology, clean energy and skills development, while strengthening Uttar Pradesh’s ambitions to build an internationally connected education and innovation ecosystem.
