Vikas Gupta, IAS, who currently serves as Commissioner of the Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS), has been entrusted with the additional responsibility of Commissioner, Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS).
A 2001-batch IAS officer of the Haryana cadre, Gupta will hold the additional charge for a period of six months, effective from July 23, 2026. The arrangement will remain in place until a regular Commissioner is appointed or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the arrangement on an ex-post facto basis. The approval formally confirms the additional responsibility that took effect from July 23.
Gupta is currently heading KVS, an autonomous organisation under the Ministry of Education responsible for administering the Kendriya Vidyalaya network across the country. The official KVS directory lists him as the organisation’s Commissioner.

With the latest assignment, Gupta will now oversee responsibilities associated with both KVS and NVS during the specified interim period. NVS operates the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas, which provide residential school education to students across the country, particularly serving talented students from rural areas.
The additional charge places two major national school education organisations under the administrative responsibility of the same officer for the duration of the temporary arrangement.
