Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has highlighted the state’s transformation in school education, saying Punjab has moved from 27th position in 2021 to the top position in primary education. Speaking at a Teachers’ Day programme in Mohali, Mann credited a series of reforms focused on infrastructure, teacher development, digital learning and student engagement.
The state has expanded its network of Schools of Eminence, strengthened digital infrastructure and introduced Wi-Fi connectivity across thousands of government schools. The government has also focused on improving classrooms, laboratories, libraries and sanitation facilities. According to the state, 16,348 schools have received Wi-Fi connectivity, while ₹488 crore has been allocated for infrastructure upgrades.
Teacher capacity building has been another major focus. Hundreds of principals, education officers and teachers have received training through institutions and programmes in Singapore, IIM Ahmedabad and the University of Turku in Finland.
The state has also promoted entrepreneurship through its Business Blasters programme and increased parental participation through Parent-Teacher Meetings. Around 24 lakh parents reportedly participated in the latest PTM exercise.

Mann said the government’s long-term vision is to position Punjab as a global education hub, with stronger academic outcomes, modern infrastructure and better opportunities for students.
The developments reflect Punjab’s continued rise in national school education assessments, with recent reports also highlighting strong learning outcomes across several grades.
