MIT-WPU Moves 25,000 Learners from Moodle to D2L Brightspace

MIT-WPU picks D2L Brightspace to replace Moodle for 25,000+ learners in a three-year deal, adding H5P interactive content for faculty.

MIT World Peace University (MIT-WPU), Pune, will move its campus learning platform from Moodle to D2L Brightspace under a three-year agreement with learning technology company D2L, the companies announced on 3 November 2026. The switch will cover more than 25,000 learners across the university’s programmes.

What the MIT-WPU and D2L Brightspace deal covers

MIT-WPU will use Brightspace as its main learning management system (LMS), along with H5P, D2L’s tool for building interactive content such as quizzes, presentations and branching scenarios. The university said the aim is to help faculty build more interactive course material that can scale across large cohorts, and to give students a more personalised digital learning space.

D2L has been growing its India business since it announced its expansion in India in 2023 and now operates locally as D2L India Private Ltd. Brightspace was also among the products recognised in G2’s 2025 best software awards.

Why MIT-WPU is leaving Moodle

Prof. (Dr.) Raviraja N. Seetharam, Vice Chancellor of MIT-WPU, called the move from Moodle an important step in the university’s digital transformation. He said the new platform should help faculty make learning more engaging and support students throughout their academic journey.

Lee Poteck, Chief Executive Officer of D2L India Private Ltd. and Chief Revenue Officer of D2L, said Brightspace and H5P would give MIT-WPU faculty new ways to create interactive learning experiences at scale for more than 25,000 learners.

Moodle is open-source and widely used by Indian universities, so a large private university choosing a commercial platform is a notable signal. MIT-WPU, which has a legacy of more than 44 years, offers over 150 undergraduate and postgraduate programmes with an emphasis on experiential learning.

A busy market for campus learning platforms

The deal comes as Indian institutions and publishers compete to own the digital classroom. In schools, S Chand recently launched PRISM, a publisher-led learning management system that combines textbooks, assessments and analytics, while AI start-ups such as Dreamtime Learning’s AiQ are pitching AI copilots to school operators. In higher education, platform choices increasingly shape how universities deliver blended courses, track outcomes and meet National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 goals on flexible and digital learning.

Details of the agreement are in D2L’s announcement. More about the university is on the MIT-WPU website.
