The government has launched a six-month Certificate (Bridge) Course in Primary Teacher Education to help in-service primary school teachers strengthen their skills for teaching at the foundational level.
Union Minister for Education Pralhad Joshi launched the programme in New Delhi. The course is designed for serving primary teachers who hold a Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) degree and aims to provide them with specialised training for primary-level teaching.
Course to Focus on Primary Education Skills
The programme will help teachers develop the knowledge and classroom skills needed to work effectively with young learners. It will cover approaches suited to children’s developmental needs, with an emphasis on child-centred, inclusive and age-appropriate teaching practices.
The course also promotes teaching as a profession that involves continuous learning, inquiry and adaptation to classroom situations.
NIOS to Implement the Programme
The National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) will implement the Bridge Course.
The programme will combine theoretical learning with practical components, with a focus on foundational learning principles and their application in primary classrooms.
Hindi and English as Mediums
The course will be offered in Hindi and English, allowing participating teachers to undertake the training in either of the two languages.
Online Admission
Teachers interested in joining the programme will be able to complete the admission process online through the official NIOS Bridge Course portal.
